Press Release: Are your vitamin D needs being met?

The day we have all been anxiously awaiting has arrived! Help us celebrate our 9th Annual Vitamin D Day by joining individuals from all over the world to spread awareness on the importance of vitamin D and safe sun exposure for human health.

Vitamin D may be the most underestimated micronutrient in today’s society. In fact, most people simply recognize vitamin D for it’s role in bone health, unaware that when activated by the body, vitamin D acts as a hormone. From it’s ability to regulate gene expression to its role in facilitating a healthy immune system and inflammatory response, vitamin D is a crucial factor in disease prevention.

Renowned vitamin D researcher, Dr. Cedric Garland, shared his thoughts on vitamin D and health, stating:

“Vitamin D is the answer to many of the greatest disease threats of this century. We just need to test for it and use it.”

Despite the abundance of research on vitamin D and a wide range of health outcomes it has been associated with, the prevalence of deficiency remains alarmingly high. In fact, researchers estimate at least 50% of people worldwide are vitamin D deficient. Why is this the case?

The primary factor preventing the public from reaching optimal vitamin D status is not the expense of supplementation or the inconvenience of spending time out in the sun, it is lack of awareness. It makes perfect sense; how can one possibly resolve an issue they do not know exists? Help us educate the public on vitamin D and safe sun exposure to put an end to this pandemic of chronic illness and empower the public to take a proactive approach to their health.
